Artist
Bio
Jennifer Hines incorporates images of the human body, natural imagery,
and the written word into her artwork using many mediums, including
sculpture, printmaking, digital photography, painting, drawing, and
installation, to explore the conceptual ideas of identity, narrative, and
memory. Jennifer has shown her work at various locations in the
Chicago area and nationwide in solo, group, and juried shows. Her solo
show, flora and fauna at Morning
Glory Studios in Chicago in March 2011, was a show of works on paper,
including drawings, photographs, and collages, that explored the symbolism
of the natural world in the formation and enactment of human identities.
Her solo show, cultivation, at
fill in the blank gallery in Chicago in June 2010, contained drawings,
paintings on digital photos, embroidery, and mixed-media sculptural pieces
that explored plant life and the human body. She continues to show in solo
and group shows in Chicago and other locations in the United States and is
actively engaged in showing her work at a variety of venues. She attended
a month-long residency at CAMAC in France during November 2011 to expand
and develop her art practice, and where she developed the “Balance”
series of artworks, which is her current body of work. Jennifer studied
printmaking, art, and creative writing at the University of Washington in
Seattle, WA and Penn State University in State College, PA, and arts
management at Columbia College of the Arts, Chicago. In addition, she also
created and ran the apartment gallery back room projects in Chicago, IL
(2010-2011), is involved with the printmaking organization Print Zero
Studios Chicago, and participates in other curatorial projects for local
community shows and festivals. She currently resides in Chicago, IL.
